the Agency growth dilemma
The Challenge: The "Signal vs. Noise" Crisis in 2026
The emergence of Agentic AI and automated outreach has created a paradox for agencies like 85sixty. While it’s easier than ever to reach a prospect, it has never been harder to connect with one. That’s where I come in.
AI-Generated Homogenization: Brands are being bombarded by automated, "personalized" AI pitches that all sound the same. This has caused high-value DTC and Travel CMOs to retreat into "Dark Social" and referral-only networks, making cold outreach almost entirely obsolete for high-tier acquisitions.
The Death of the AOR: Large-scale Agency of Record (AOR) deals are increasingly scarce. In a volatile economy, brands are opting for specialized, project-based "sprints" or "performance-first" engagements to mitigate risk.
Trust as the New Currency: In 2026, brands aren't looking for vendors; they are looking for vetted stewards who can navigate the complexities of data privacy and human led AI-driven marketing strategies.
The Solution: Relationship-First Growth
Lionheart 6 moves away from the "volume-based" treadmill. I recognize that 85sixty’s value lies in its deep expertise in DTC eCommerce and Travel/Hospitality. My approach centers on Strategic Relationship Development to penetrate these specific niches.
1. Quality Over Quantity
Instead of delivering 50 "curiosity" meetings, I’d rather focus on 5 "conviction" meetings (numbers are examples only). I spend my time identify brands where 85sixty’s specific tech stack (ie: Shopify, Adobe, CDP implementation) solves a documented pain point.
2. Targeting the DTC & Travel Ecosystem
Travel & Hospitality: I leverage a "Consultative Discovery" model. Travel brands are currently struggling with fragmented data. I position 85sixty as the data-science powerhouse that unifies their customer journey.
DTC Brands: It’s best to target mid-market to enterprise DTC brands that have outgrown their "scrappy" phase and need the sophisticated full-funnel media buying and CX/UX expertise that 85sixty provides.
3. Overcoming the "Project-Work" Trap
To combat the scarcity of AOR deals, my business development style focuses on Land and Expand. I source high-value, often one-channel projects with a strategic roadmap built-in, designed to evolve into the long-term, "trusted collaborator" relationships that 85sixty is known for.
homefield advantage.
San Diego is a key hub for brands in travel and dtc due to:
manufacturing infrastructure, marketing talent, cultural relevance, and investor access.
Let’s Get Messi. an example of my thinking and methods.
Mark Anthony Brands will “slow down” its Más+ by Messi rollout in 2026 and overhaul distribution after a rocky first 18 months. 🔄🥤
The company confirmed it’s retooling the brand—not ending it—cutting roles and shifting from DSD to direct-to-retail and DTC while narrowing channel focus. Facing missed first-year sales targets, Más+ plans to move from 16.9 oz PET to 12 oz sleek cans next year. The reset comes amid ongoing legal battles with PRIME over trade dress and a new Lanham Act claim challenging how Messi’s role was marketed. ⚽⚖️ source: Linkedin
Activate it.
The brand is struggling. It’s a great time to start a conversation with the right folks who have a stake in pivoting a brand with a huge celebrity backing. The parent company of White Claw may have some accolades in that space, but nothing like the 85Sixty’s potential for expanding their growth. There seems to be a lot of shakeups at Messi’s beverage group so finding the right contact is key and timing is everything to build a bridge through authentic connection: My son is named after Leo =). There’s my “ice breaker” that allows a conversation to start without talk of services or capabilities.
